The Various Receptions of Mary Wollstonecraft’s Feminist Ideas Over the Past Centuries

Abstract : Mary Wollstonecraft, an 18th-century British-born woman of letters claimed women’s education and equal rights in her writings. Influenced by the revolutionary events of her time, she is now recognized as one of the pioneers of feminism. Her avant-garde ideas and her tumultuous personal life were central in this research as they affected her reputation. Both were mostly disapproved by the public opinion, but her person was eventually rehabilitated, as having been a prominent writer and reformer.
