Estime de soi et réussite scolaire à l’école primaire : Postures du professeur des écoles

Abstract : The purpose of this research thesis is to study the relationships between self-esteem and academic success in order to understand them better and explore a lead of intervention to reduce the feeling of incompetence, the lack of self-confidence or the fear of failure which are obstacles to their development. We therefore conducted a study in order to propose professional gestures, teaching postures and methods of pedagogical interventions that help build self-esteem and students’ academic success. In this way, sixty-four school teachers filled out a questionnaire on their organization, practices and methods in the classroom. We also collected the representations and explanations of CM1/CM2 students concerning their well-being, their self-confidence and their academic skills. The results showed that adopting a caring and reassuring teaching posture promotes feelings of security, identity, belonging and competence. These four feelings are essential in order to enable students to develop an awareness of their own value, which in turn influences academic success.
